Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher criticized Andy Robertson’s recent performances after his mistakes cost the Reds a two-point loss to Fulham on Saturday.
Robertson’s troubles started early when he found himself the subject of a rash tackle from Fulham defender Issa Diop. Although many believed the challenge should have resulted in a red card, the referee and VAR decided not to take action. However, things quickly went downhill for the Liverpool defender.
Shortly after the missed call, Robertson’s poor defensive positioning allowed Andreas Pereira to open the scoring for Fulham, giving the visitors a surprising lead at Anfield.
The nightmare continued just six minutes later when Robertson’s thumping strike passed the ball to Fulham’s Harry Wilson, who fired home. Robertson fouled Wilson outside the penalty area as he tried to regain form and was given a straight red card for rejecting a clear scoring opportunity. Liverpool were forced to play with 10 men for the remainder of the game.
Gakpo equalized early in the second half, but Muniz restored Fulham’s lead in the 76th minute. With time running out it looked like the Reds would suffer their second home defeat of the season, but Diogo Jota came off the bench to save a point in the final minutes.
Jamie Carragher urges Liverpool to sign Milos Kolquez
Club legend Jamie Carragher has called for the club to sign another left-back following his recent performances, urging the club to sign Milos Kolquez, a Bournemouth player admired by Arne Slott. Solve the left back problem.
He said in an interview with Sky Sports (quoted by daily mail):
“(Against Fulham) he didn’t look like he was fully running back, he took a big hit (early in the half) and then was careful to control the ball before getting the red card.”
“He needs help. Liverpool don’t have any backup and that’s something they need to sort out in January.”
“(Milos) Kolquez was a revelation at Bournemouth. The technical director (Richard Hughes) who brought him to Bournemouth is now the sporting director at Liverpool.”
“Kerkez looks like a full-back and is very aggressive. He has been outstanding since coming into the Premier League and will be one to keep an eye on in the future whether he stays or moves on.”
Andy Robertson is in poor form this season
This isn’t the first time he’s been sloppy this season. He kicked a clumsy penalty against Southampton last month and then conceded a similar penalty against Real Madrid. Fortunately, Kelleher saved two penalties to avoid his embarrassment.
Robertson has been integral to Liverpool’s success in recent years and is a fan favorite at the club. However, his recent performances have left fans wondering if it is time for the club to invest in a long-term replacement for the Scot.
Kolquez isn’t the only player to be linked with a move. Alphonso Davies is a high-profile name being tipped as Robertson’s long-term replacement.
