However, De Graaf, who notably reached this round of last year’s World Darts Championships, was eliminated struggling in the second set. After holding the toss solidly for the opening over, De Graaf broke Nebrida’s toss off the other leg and took full control. A few moments later, the Dutch-Swede scored a double eight in the third match in a row, equalizing the competition with one set per person.
Stopping the mini-rotation, Nebrida opened set 3 with a pop-pop 84 cash. As darts were played in each of the next three matches, the third set was moved to the fifth, deciding match. Nebrida had the advantage in the shot, but after De Graaf started with maximum attack, he took control. Despite a few sloppy finishes, De Graaf took the leg and increased the set to 2-1.
Set 4 also belonged to De Graaf, which was also a bit more comfortable as the Dutch-Swede, despite only averaging around 90 points himself, punished Nebrida’s almost non-existent goal, facilitating a 3-1 lead in the set. As a result, De Graaf was only one set short of the last 16 and a duel with Michael van Gerwen.
Nebrida wasn’t ready to throw in the towel yet, as he took the lead after a strong throw at the beginning of the fifth set. De Graaf, however, held on in the second stage, then broke Nebrida in the third stage and saved one leg from victory. Throwing for the match, De Graaf hit 7 darts to perfect leg. Although nine darters proved to be an illusory victory, it did not prove to be true when he came back and scored a double-double 18 points in the game.
