Michael van Gerwen has dominated the PDC for years, but 2024 has seen a seismic change with the dominance of Luke Littler and Luke Humphries, and Michael van Gerwen is reportedly not happy about it.

Mighty Mike won three World Darts Championships in six years, as well as 33 wins in other major tournaments, but his victories have dried up since his appearance Łukasz Małyr AND Luke Humphries.

According to 23rd World Joe Cullen: Michael van Gerwen is “displeased” with the arrival of Humphries and Littler.

Michael van Gerwen was replaced by Luke Littler and Luke Humphries

2022 Masters winner Cullen saw a big change in the darting pecking order when van Gerwen was dropped.

Speaking to Online Darts, Cullen said: “Everyone is talking about darts because of Luke Littler. I know Luke Humphries won worlds.

“They’re two to beat and I think people like Michael van Gerwen, people like that, are looking at them and he’s not happy with that.

“It used to be Van Gerwen and then everyone else, but now it’s not like that, it’s the two Lukes and then everyone else.”

Mighty Mike has been drawn on the opposite side of the odds from Humphries and Littler and may only face them in the final of the event at Alexandra Palace.

Michael van Gerwen breaks an unfortunate three-year record

Mighty Mike will end the year without a major title for the first time since 2021, and van Gerwen’s influence on the PDC Tour will continue to wane.

van Gerwen won the World Series Finals in 2023 and the World Matchplay in 2022, but failed to take part in the premier PDC tournament in 2024.

However, he won two Players Championship tournaments and the Hungarian Darts Trophy.
