Joe Gomez injury update as Liverpool defender set for spell out

Joe Gomez As is set for a spell on the sidelines Liverpool Picked up the injury during the 5-0 win against West Ham.

Gomez injured his hamstring and pulled up during a sprint in the first half. He was replaced by Jarrell Kwansah after giving the signal to go down.

The 27-year-old filled in for the wounded Ibrahim Konatewho has been out since the win against Real Madrid last month.

But Gomez’s hamstring injury means Kwansah could be needed alongside Virgil van Dijk against Manchester United on Sunday and is heading into a busy month with the centre-back just two feet from Liverpool.

Asked about Gomez’s injury, manager Arne Slott said: “If a player says he wants to stop, he has to change.”

“We know it’s a hamstring and we know it’s going to be a while before he’s back.

“I don’t know how long but he will be out for quite some time. This situation can happen in one season.”

Liverpool have eight games in January, including the two legs of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham and a trip to high-flying Nottingham Forest on January 14.

Konate and right-back Connor Bradley are close to returning for the Premier League leaders, who have opened up an eight-point gap at the top.
