Joel Embiid He suffered a sinus fracture from a blow to the face Philadelphia 76ers‘ 121-107 lost to Indiana Pacers on Friday evening.
Embiid left the court shortly before halftime Friday night after being hit in the face while trying to make a defensive rebound.
Embiid struggled against Indiana Benedict Mathurin as he caught a stray forearm and elbow on the bridge of his nose. Embiid fell to the ground as play continued on the floor and remained near the Philadelphia bench, holding his face.
The team ruled him out early in the second half with a “impact to the right side of his face” and said he would undergo further tests. He had 12 points, four rebounds and five assists in 17 1/2 minutes in the 76ers’ 121-107 loss.
Embiid played in just his sixth game of 23 for Philadelphia. He was bothered by swelling in his left knee and also served a three-game suspension for a physical incident with a reporter.
Embiid also suffered multiple facial injuries, including a broken orbital bone, after colliding with a Toronto motorcycle Pascal Siakam during the 2022 playoffs and one in 2018 after colliding with teammate Markelle Fultz. Last year, Embiid suffered from Bell’s palsy during a first-round playoff loss to New York.
