January 22 – Juventus become the first major club to join Gerard Pique’s fast-growing King’s League in Italy, a 7-a-side tournament that fuses traditional football with modern entertainment.
The Bianconeri will partner with Zebras FC, a team led by Juventus fan Luca Campolungi, to take part in the upcoming King’s League Italy Championship, which is set to kick off in the coming weeks.
The partnership will provide Zebras FC ‘members’ with exclusive benefits, such as Juventus match tickets and training opportunities at the Allianz Training Center – adding a touch of Serie A prestige to the initiative.
The King’s League launched by PK and his Cosmos company is starting to make an impact. Its inaugural King’s World Cup of Nations kicked off in January and has signed deals with more than 20 media partners and a host of major sponsors.
Key broadcasters include Sky Sports in Italy, DAZN in Japan and Australia, ESPN and Disney+ in Latin America, and CBS Golazo Network in the US.
The tournament has also attracted high-profile sponsors such as McDonald’s, Red Bull, Spotify, Air Asia, Adidas and Floki.
All of this underscores the growing influence of 7-a-side football on the professional side of the game. Juventus, a club with an eye for innovation, wasted no time getting on board.
Announcing the competition’s sponsorship earlier this month, Kings League chief commercial officer Oriol Grannell said: “As football’s most streamed competition, our events offer broadcasters and brands huge potential to connect with young audiences around the world.
“We are thrilled to welcome such a high-profile list of broadcasters, platforms and commercial partners at this exciting time of competition.”
The inaugural King’s World Cup of Nations featured 16 national teams, including Brazil, Spain and Italy, and brought back legendary players such as Kaka, Andrea Pirlo, Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero. Fittingly, the final between Brazil and Colombia was held at Juventus’ Allianz Stadium in Turin, with Brazil taking the crown.
