17-year-old boy arrested after sickening messages sent to Kai Havertz’s wife threatening couple’s unborn child

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after sending sick messages to Kai Havertz’s wife on social media.

The arrest is part of the investigation Social Media Abuse by Sophia Havertz Following Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United in the FA Cup earlier this month.

Havertz missed a penalty in the Gunners’ shootout at the Emirates Stadium on 12 January.

Sofia took to Instagram after the match to share screenshots of dirty messages targeting the couple’s unborn child she received on the platform.

The model is currently pregnant with her and Havertz’s first child.

Hertfordshire Police confirmed on Tuesday that a 17-year-old boy from St Albans had been arrested.

The teenager has been bailed pending investigations, the force confirmed.

In a screenshot shared by Sofia, one Instagram user said: “I hope you have a miscarriage.”

Another post revealed a different threat, promising to ‘slaughter’ their child.

After the incident, Arsenal hired data technology firm Signify to identify the abusers.

Hertfordshire Police subsequently launched an investigation into the messages.

The Arsenal boss said: “It’s unbelievable, to be honest. We really have to do something about it, because accepting it and hiding it has dire consequences.

“This is something that we need to eliminate from the game because it is too cynical and dependent on the outcome of an action. There is no other industry like it.”

Havertz and Sofia have been together since 2018 and announced their engagement in the summer of 2023.

The pair tied the knot 12 months later before confirming they were expecting their first child in November.
