Ex LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacyaccused of causing a crash that killed a 78-year-old man on December 17 and then fleeing the scene without rendering aid or calling authorities, surrendered to authorities on Sunday evening, was jailed and later released on $151,000 bail , according to police records.
Records from the Lafourche Parish (Louisiana) Sheriff’s Office show Lacy was charged with negligent homicide, fatal hit-and-run and reckless driving.
A warrant has been issued for Lacy’s arrestand on Friday, police said they contacted Lacy and his attorney to turn himself in.
According to a press release from Louisiana State Police on Friday, Lacy was allegedly driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on Louisiana Highway 20 and “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed, crossing the center line and entering the northbound lane while standing in a designated passing zone.”
“As Lacy was illegally passing other vehicles, the driver of the northbound pickup truck braked suddenly and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the oncoming Dodge,” a press release from the Louisiana State Police said.
“The pickup was followed by a 2017 Kia Cadenza, and the driver swerved left to avoid an oncoming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid hitting the Dodge, it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento. “
Police alleged that Lacy, 24, drove around the crash site and fled “without stopping to render aid, call emergency services or report her involvement in the accident.”
Herman Hall of Thibodaux, Louisiana, who was a passenger in the Kia Sorento, later died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to state police. The hall was 78 years old.
Police said the drivers of the Cadenza and Sorento also suffered moderate injuries.
Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, said in a statement that his client is “fully cooperating with authorities.”
Lacy played two seasons in Louisiana before transferring to LSU in 2022. He had 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns last season and declared for the NFL draft on December 19, two days after the accident.
