ASHBURN, Va. — Washington Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Marshon Lattimore, who missed Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury, is moving in the right direction.
This will allow the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback to make his debut with his new team in the New Orleans Saints, six weeks after the Saints traded him at the early November deadline. Lattimore could be seen participating in individual drills during Wednesday’s practice, his first official practice since his transfer.
“We’re going to have all week to figure this out,” Quinn said. “We’re not going to miss a step with him and practicing and hitting all the marks. If the trend is that good, then (he’ll be) gone.”
Whether it’s this weekend or Dec. 22 against NFC East-leading Philadelphia, the Commanders are hoping to add Lattimore to their defense as soon as possible in the playoffs. Washington improved to 8-5 after the bye week and released 2023 first-round pick Emmanuel Forbes earlier this month in part in anticipation of Lattimore’s playing time.
The prognosis is not good for wide receiver Noah Brown, who Quinn said will be out for an extended period with a “significant internal injury.” Brown left the Dec. 1 game against Tennessee with a rib injury.
“Bad news about Noah: He’s going to be out for a while,” Quinn said. “We love him and his style of play, his style, so it hurts. He’s definitely one of our glue guys. He and the medical staff did a really good job of dealing with serious injuries during the game. Fortunately, he’ll be fine, but it’ll be a little frustrating.”
Brown, who was signed in late August after being cut from Houston’s initial 53-man roster, became one of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ top targets. He had 35 catches for 453 yards, including a Hail Mary touchdown catch in an Oct. 27 win over Chicago.
“He’s an impact player,” Daniels said of Brown. “We’re praying and hoping for a speedy recovery. We’re always with him. That’s our brother, so nothing has changed on our end.”
Quinn said starting right tackle Andrew Wylie, who missed the Titans game with a concussion, is fully available for practice. Running back Austin Ekeler (concussion) and kicker Austin Seibert (groin) were placed on reserve with injuries and will miss at least the Saints’ next three games plus games against the Eagles and Atlanta Falcons Contest.
