Leeds United released a statement condemning chants about Manor Solomon.
Footage has emerged showing Leeds away fans chanting Tragedy chants and discriminating against the on-loan Tottenham player.
It happened during their 2-0 away win against Stoke City on Boxing Day at the Bet365 Stadium, with chants audible in the stadium and on television, while a video of some fans singing in the rally was also posted online.
In the statement, Leeds reminded supporters that discriminatory chants following a song referencing the Israeli winger and the Palestinian state could be deemed illegal by the authorities.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has claimed tens of thousands of lives with a recent resurgence of violence between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas.
A Leeds United spokesman said this information Yorkshire Evening Post:”Discriminatory language or chanting is not acceptable and supporters may be breaking the law.
“The club condemns this behavior and has a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of discriminatory abuse.
“Strict measures and sanctions are in place across all English football leagues to deal with illegal behavior on football pitches and this includes but is not limited to discriminatory behavior and chants of tragedy.”
The Crown Prosecution Service has suggested that fans guilty of chanting or discriminatory behavior could be punished, including being barred from attending matches or public areas on match days.
Such actions may lead to stadium bans and arrests of supporters.
Solomon is currently on loan with Leeds from Tottenham during the summer.
The 25-year-old has played 16 times for Leeds, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
He played 76 minutes in a 2–0 win over Stoke, which saw Daniel Farke’s side retain top spot in the Championship.
