Gian van Veen will return to Alexandra Palace in 2025 PDC World Darts Championships on Monday, December 23. The 22-year-old Dutchman is ranked 28th and in his first match he will face the winner of the fight between Ricardo Pietreczko and Zong Xiaochen.
Last year, Van Veen was surprisingly eliminated in the first round after a 3-2 defeat to Man Lok Leung. However, Van Veen had a successful 2024, climbing to 28th place in the world rankings and recently winning the Youth World Championships, defeating compatriot Jurjen van der Velde in the final. The Dutchman therefore starts the World Championships full of confidence and will do it with a new song. He will take to the stage at Alexandra Palace with “Loose Wrist”, a special darts song created by Marco Schuitmaker, Donny and Russo.
“A few months ago, Russo asked me to compile an attendance count for me. Then I said, ‘Okay,'” Van Veen said. AD.nl. “A few weeks later, Russo told me that he had reached out to Marco Schuitmaker and Donnie for help and asked if I wanted to use it for the World Darts Championships. It has a nice rhythm to it, so I like it.”

Typically, Van Veen invariably takes the stage to the sounds of “Astronomia” by Vicetone and Tony Igy, but he has previously indicated that he is open to other suggestions. Will this song about darts become his favorite song now? “I don’t know yet,” says Van Veen. “It’s a Dutch song, so it’s hard for English people to sing it. Although it also has a bit of jalala in it, so I’m sure it will be good, haha. There’s a TOTO Dutch Darts Masters competition in the Netherlands in January, so we can do that anyway, let’s see how the song lands first.
