Luke Humphries shares truth behind how much of his winnings he takes home with nearly £1m taken away

Luke Humphries is currently the unchallenged number one in the world rankings. The 29-year-old has a lead of almost £700,000 over second placed Luke Littler.

This way, Humphries can call himself a millionaire, something he never imagined before. He remembers the first time a large sum of money was deposited there. “Really nice! You look at it and think: “Jesus!” £50,000 has just been deposited,” Humphries said Happy hour podcast.

“Of course you have to pay for management and taxes… but in the end you get 65 percent of it, and if you’re lucky, maybe 70 percent. And it was amazing. You think: ‘That’s amazing, £50,000, I want to keep doing it!’

Needless to say, Cool Hand Luke’s average winnings have skyrocketed in recent years. After all, in addition to the world champion title, the Englishman also won the World Matchplay and the Players Championship finals in 2024 and led England to final victory at the Darts World Cup.

That’s a profit of more than £850,000 last year alone, which is roughly what he’s spent on taxes for his board so far in his career. That leaves around £2 million for Humphries to take home – and that’s before sponsorship money is taken into account.

“Then sponsors come in,” he continued. “They pay you – in those days – £5,000 or £10,000 for each sponsor and you get £30,000 or £40,000 for your shirt before you even throw a dart!

“And that was about seven years ago. That’s your salary without any winnings. It’s convenient, whereas now it’s funny, stupid money. When you see that half a million from the Worlds, you say, “Woah.”
