A proud Woods looked more excited on Sunday than if he had made an ace himself.
Charlie Woods hit his 7-iron from 175 yards on the par-3 fourth hole at the Ritz-Carlton Club Orlando during the final round of a tournament that features mostly major champions and their family members.
Neither dad nor son even knew he had fallen into the hole.
The large gallery by the green began to cheer wildly, as did another group of fans on the other side of the hole. Most of them held their index finger up – some down to indicate they had hit the hole, others up to show their score.
TV cameras finally confirmed it, and a laughing Woods embraced Charlie in a warm hug before playfully pushing him away.
“First,” Charlie smiled as cameras surrounded him.
“It was a perfect seven, so I just hit it,” he said later Golf Channel.
“Down, on the left, little seven. It was amazing. I didn’t think it was caught. I don’t believe anyone until I go there and see it!”
What’s more, it gave them a temporary share of the lead for the fifth straight year that Woods and his son are playing in the 36-hole tournament.
