Despite reports that Florian Wirtz could sign a new contract with Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester City have reason to believe they still have a chance of signing the talented Germany ace next summer.
Guardiola can take some of the pressure off City’s winless streak, not to mention that “something pretty spectacular” could befall the Premier League champions if they’re not careful.
Manchester City raise hope in pursuit of Florian Wirtz
It’s been a season like no other since the Catalan took charge, with City yet to register another win in their last 11 games, apart from a win over Nottingham Forest.
These include leading Feyenoord 3-0 with 15 minutes left in the Champions League, but ended up drawing 3-3; and leading Manchester United with 3 minutes left in the derby. But ultimately lost 2-1. .

Perhaps that’s why the club maintains an interest in Florian Wirtz, as CaughtOffside exclusively revealed a few weeks ago that City are favorites to sign him over the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg revealed that Wirtz is likely to extend his current Leverkusen contract, however, an important detail is that any new deal has yet to be signed.

While that remains the case, City have the potential to convince the 21-year-old and his representatives that the youngster’s future lies in the north-west of England.
Given City’s poor form this season as well, there’s reason to believe a more extensive rebuild could be underway in the summer.
If Wirtz can be reassured that he will be a big part of it and the team will be built around him, then he has a chance of making the jump to the Premier League.
