Manchester City accused of ‘tapping up’ 18-year-old centre-back prospect

Manchester City The teenage defender accused Juma Bah of being tapped by his club Real Valladolid.

The Spanish side say the 18-year-old and his agent told them on Tuesday he would unilaterally terminate his contract and that the Sierra Leone player failed to report for training on Wednesday morning.

Valladolid said City were “behind the decision” and “advised the player to take this route”.

The club said they had been informed by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on Wednesday that the fund made the necessary payment to activate the termination clause of Wah’s contract.

“Earlier, yesterday afternoon, Manchester City Send a statement asking Real Valladolid to start negotiations for the player for a possible permanent transfer,” the Spanish top-flight club said in a statement.

“Today, the Sierra Leonean decided not to show up at his workplace for morning training. For all these reasons, the club holds the player responsible for breaching his contractual obligations and has asked his legal department to take disciplinary action in the matter.

The statement added that Valladolid had been placed in a “vulnerable position” by City and that they “reserve the right to resort to appropriate legal and sporting jurisdiction to enforce (our) rights and protect (our) interests.”

“Player intent, supposedly supported and directed Manchester City And his agent, created great frustration and anger within Real Valladolidwho welcomed Zuma Bah with open arms and gave him the opportunity of a lifetime,” the statement added.

The city declined to comment.

Bah first moved to Valladolid from AIK Fritong in his native country last summer and was initially on loan before the Spanish club activated a purchase option to sign him on January 1.

Manchester City have signed young defenders Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov this week.
