Manchester City has condemned online racist abuse directed at captain Kyle Walker following Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Juventus.
The 34-year-old defender became the target of racist attacks after City’s defeat to Juve, which resulted in the Premier League team finishing 22nd in Europe’s elite club competition.
“We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind, whether it takes place in stadiums or on the Internet. We will offer Kyle our full support following the disgusting treatment he received,” City said in a statement on Thursday.

The Premier League also supported Walker and City in their fight against online hate and said: “…racism has no place in our game or anywhere in society.”
Earlier, Walker posted a screenshot of the abuse he received on social media, saying: “No one should ever be subjected to the type of horrible, racist and threatening abuse I have received online since yesterday’s match.
“Instagram and the authorities must stop this phenomenon for the sake of all those who suffer from this abuse. This is never acceptable.”
City are struggling with one win in their last 10 games in all competitions and Walker said: “To our fans: we will continue to work as a team to play better, improve and recover together.”
