Manchester City will be eyeing top players from across Europe in the January transfer window as Pep Guardiola tries to solve the problems currently facing his team.
Sunday’s 2-1 defeat Manchester United complicated matters Manchester Citywhich now leaves them nine points behind Liverpool in the Premier League after playing one more game. They have also managed just one win in their last 11 games in all competitions, showing how major changes are needed.
It looks like Guardiola will be able to make the necessary changes in the January transfer window, with a player he has worked with previously at the top of his transfer list.
Manchester City reunited Guardiola with Joshua Kimmich
According to Daily StarManchester City is considering the January transfer of Joshua Kimmich, with whom Pep Guardiola achieved great results Bayern Munich in 2015/16.
Signed by the Catalan coach for €7 million as a 20-year-old, Kimmich made 36 appearances in his first season in Bavaria, playing at centre-back, central midfielder and right-back throughout the season.
This versatility could prove extremely useful for Guardiola as he looks to turn things around at Manchester City, where defensive and midfield problems have hampered his team so far this season. However, Kimmich may prove most useful in central midfield with Rodri injured for the rest of the season, and the German will be extremely capable of dictating play from a deeper position.
Manchester City have the potential to sign Kimmich for significantly less than his £41.5m fee Transfer market pricing too. As his contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season, Kimmich could start talks with clubs outside Germany from January 1, before signing a pre-contract agreement and moving at the end of the season.
As the risk of losing him for free is very real, Bayern could instead try to cash in on the 29-year-old in January, with the aforementioned report suggesting that just £10m could tempt the German giants to sell.
IN FourFourTwoFrom his point of view, Kimmich seems to be the perfect player that Manchester City needs now to solve some of their problems. While we expect a fee of over £10 million to be needed to complete the deal, it will still be a low price.
Whether the diminutive star will want to leave his country and move to Manchester is a completely different question, especially with Bayern returning to dominance and City struggling.
