Marcus Rashford faces a huge hurdle in signing for Barcelona in January, and it all has to do with the former Manchester City defender.
After expressing a desire to leave Manchester United clear at the end of 2024, Rashford was left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad, and his transfer in January seemed inevitable.
However, this is not certain at this stage of the transfer window, taking into account the problems that appeared at Barcelona an end that could prevent Rashford from joining.
Marcus Rashford may not be able to sign for Barcelona
According to AthleteBarcelona manager Hansi Flick is keen to keep Eric Garcia at the club following his Champions League goal against Benfica on Tuesday night, as well as the Spaniard’s willingness to stay and fight for his place.
Garcia has made just six appearances in all competitions for Barcelona this season and looked set to leave Catalonia in the January transfer window in search of more regular minutes. Como was willing to pay around £6 million for the former Manchester City defender, but the decision to keep him at Barcelona will likely prevent Rashford from transferring.
This is because, according to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona could only sign the Manchester United player if there was space on the payroll. Ansu Fati is another player who could leave the team this winter, so Rashford still has a glimmer of hope of making his ‘dream’ move.
“Financial Fair Play needs space from a financial point of view to achieve this. So Eric Garcia, Como’s interest with an offer of £6 million. Girona is also interested.” – Romano said.
“And also the Ansu Fati situation – stays, leaves, loan, permanent – what the player wants. Because as of today, Ansu Fati still does not give the green light to exit.”
Meanwhile, Rashford looks even more likely to remain at Manchester United until the end of the season. Borussia Dortmund were priced out because of the move for the 27-year-old AC Milan the signing of Kyle Walker put an end to any potential of signing Rashford – Italian teams can only sign one British player a year.
IN FourFourTwoAccording to him, Rashford will most likely remain at Old Trafford this term. Whether he plays or not is a completely different matter, as Ruben Amorim is certainly not a fan of Rashford, and a few weeks ago he publicly expressed his desire to leave the club.
