Former British super middleweight champion Mark Jeffers will fight replacement Elvis Ahorgah for the Commonwealth silver title in the boxer’s double world championship in Liverpool on Saturday .
“I’m punching harder now. I made a statement last time. I believe I’m way above this level. I should be fighting at a higher level already. There’s nothing I can do but keep winning. It’s going to be a fight again A devastating knockout,” Jeffers, 18-0 (5 KOs), said at a press conference on Thursday.
“If he comes out [aggressively]he will be eliminated in the first round. I don’t mind. “
On January 11, British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Callum Simpson will defend his title against Steed Woodall, 15-0 (10 KOs), in Sheffield. A feud between Simpson and Jeffers has been building for a while, but there’s always been a feeling that it wouldn’t happen unless the stakes were high enough.
This point is rapidly approaching. Simpson showed he was more than capable of attracting crowds when he drew thousands to Barnsley’s Oakwell Stadium for his title fight against Zach Cherry in August. Tonight was a success and Simpson will likely be back there this summer. Top-ranked and undefeated Jeffers will be the ideal opponent and the winner will be the man most likely to continue Britain’s rich 12-stone tradition.
“Yeah. This was my first fight. I’ve always said that. I won it,” Jeffers said. “I beat Cherry two weeks later but I still don’t think I get the recognition I deserve, so for me, everyone knows the biggest fight in the British super middleweight division is me against Callum Simpson , so there’s no excuse that’s not going to happen. We all have to win, and this is the fight.
“I beat Callum Simpson every day of the week. He’s a good fighter but he makes too many mistakes. A guy like me, I tell him what’s what.”
