Mauricio Pochettino had pundits in stitches after praising one player’s ‘big balls’ post match.
Pochettino’s USA men’s national team faced Costa Rica in an international friendly, losing 3-0 in the process, but victory wasn’t the only talking point after the final whistle.
the former Chelsea And Tottenham boss Pochettino had high praise for one player in particular, Diego Luna.
Luna contributed an assist for the opening goal, which was scored by Brian White.
This came despite Luna playing with a broken nose she had received moments before and loved to continue playing.
Pochettino told TNT Sports: “I was very surprised because it broke [his nose].
“I didn’t want to tell him too much, too much drama. I didn’t want to scare him [him]But I asked how she was feeling.
“He said, ‘Please coach let me play at least after half time’.
“The doctor was right and his first action was an assist for a goal. Big ball”.
‘Big Balls’ had the pundit team on commentary, with former USMNT star DaMarcus Beasley and former Mexico player Miguel Leyón in stitches.
With presenter Sarah Walsh trying to steer the conversation away from some of the baby’s jiggling, Pochettino added: “He showed great character.”
Real Salt Lake star Luna continued to play throughout the match despite needing medical attention for his bleeding nose, returning to the pitch with his nose covered in cotton wool.
He went to the hospital after the game, sharing a post on Instagram to update fans that he was doing well.
“Thanks everyone for the messages I’m fine,” she wrote in the first photo.
As he confirmed the surgery was complete, Luna said: “I should be back on the field on Monday.”
