One of the game’s most popular players will team up with one of the game’s most popular caddies in the season opener Sentry at Kapalua Resort in Hawaii this week. But this move is only temporary.

According to the PGA TourMichael Greller, a longtime advisor to Jordan Spieth, will be cheering on Max Homa during the first stop of the 2025 PGA Tour season. Homa’s regular caddie, Joe Greiner, was unavailable this week but is expected to return for the West Coast Swing, which begins in two weeks .

Homa faces a winless 2024 after winning five times in the previous three seasons. He is currently ranked 41st in the world; a year ago he entered the same tournament with 7th place.

Spieth didn’t qualify for The Sentry, but it’s unlikely he would have been able to play anyway. His season ended in August at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and almost immediately afterward decided to undergo wrist surgery. Earlier this month, he joined Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio and said that the wrist “I feel fine

“Everything went according to plan,” Spieth said. “For the last few weeks I have been focusing on ball counting and last weekend I was at full capacity. The weather here in Dallas was good, I was last at it, well, really, I was hitting Nerf balls for a while so I could work on some mechanics and not have contact.

“Now I have no limits. It feels good. None of the shots, you know, I really don’t have any problem with it. No pain, nothing. So now it’s just a matter of getting on with it, continuing therapy probably through the New Year and just being prepared to start playing golf and being prepared to play three weeks in a row. I think the next step will be to go out and play, which will be a lot of fun. He will definitely be a little rusty to start with.”

Last season, Spieth didn’t win once in 22 starts and had three top-10 finishes. Still looking for his first win since the 2022 RBC Heritage.

Sentinel, a signature event, begins Thursday at the plantation field in Kapalua. You can watch the first round broadcast from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST on the Golf Channel or on the NBC Sports app.
