Michael van Gerwen will face Callan Rydz on New Year’s Day in the quarterfinals of the 2025 tournament PDC World Darts Championships after the allegations were suppressed Jeffrey de Graaf 4-2 in sets.
De Graaf was easily pushed aside in the first two sets, but suddenly found his way back into the match, sealing two sets only for MVG, which again gave him no chance to take any power in the clash.
Van Gerwen, who has long eluded a fourth world title and has underperformed in recent years at Ally Pally and overall on the 2024 tour, could yet claim the biggest prize on January 3.

Van Gerwen gave De Graaf no chances early on, as mentioned, which was thwarted by a 3-1 opening salvo at an average of 103.8 and 118 goals once he took the lead.
He sent a message to De Graaf to come and match, and then went into the second set unanswered to double his lead again, averaging 103 and his doubling was 66%.
He would equal De Graaf by winning the third and fourth sets. Especially its finishing was absolutely sublime. After two sets in a row, he sat on 7/11, especially with the double 18 at the end of his hand like a piece of string.
However, he began to fade and after giving MVG a break following missed darts, he barely had another chance to register a leg. Great champions often find a way to overcome adversity, and Van Gerwen did just that. He sealed set five with a 14-darter double-eighth and was one down on the road, and the victory was sealed by six goals.
He started the next set at 126 and then broke at 58 to put one away before going down to double three with De Graaf still a long way off.
