Junior middleweight Miguel Madueno has no time to agree to his latest opportunity. Not that he has many.
Madueno will face Oscar Duarte at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Saturday and step in a short time with Regis Prograis , the latter was forced to withdraw from the battle due to injury.
Madueno, 26, 31-3 (28 KO), originally from Guasf, Sinaloa, Mexico, now in Orange, California. Although the world learned that Prograis stood out in the fight on Wednesday, Madueno’s team (particularly promoter Alex Camponovo) received a call a day ago.
“I was in the Dominican Republic and celebrated my wife’s birthday,” Camponovo told Boxingscene. “We went with the whole family for a few days and then came back on Monday night. I got a call from Eric Gomez [president of Golden Boy Promotions] Tuesday at about two o’clock. ”
The news prompted Camponovo to contact Madueno and asked if he was interested in becoming Duarte’s new rival, 28-2-1 (22 KOS). Camponovo knew Madueno had been training because he saw fighters busy on social media. He hopes to fight for him in 8-10 weeks, but even in such a short time, the opportunity is too great to pass on.
“It doesn’t take too long to convince him.” “I didn’t even finish the sentence, he said he would fight because that’s Miguel. It’s just a 10-day notice, I’m sure He will do his best.”
Madueno is currently a family training session in Mexico with his uncle (also known as Miguel). His latest appearance – a unanimous decision on Keyshawn Davis in July that lost the unanimous decision – was frustrated that Madueno gave his emotions the best performance. He learned what he learned from his experience and has since worked with a sports psychologist.
“He has this factor because he’s a little savage there,” Camponovo said of Maduno. “When things don’t move forward, he’s taken away. He has a sports psychologist who tries to help him Focus more on the fight and stick to his game plan.”
Duarte, a 29-year-old from Chihuahua, Mexico, has been blocked by Ryan Garcia in December 2023 with Robert Garcia Robert Garcia made two consecutive victories.
Camponovo said Maduno’s will set him apart. He believes that fighting in a short period of time shows how motivated Madueno is.
“He doesn’t want to be an opponent,” Camponovo said. “I know a fact.”
