After waiting five years between releases of the forged wedgeMiura has wasted no time in creating a complete lineup for its Forged series for 2024. Added by A raw finish late last year to its initial satin offering, and now Miura is adding a new finish to its Forged Wedge series with the introduction of a black QPQ finish.

What is QPQ? QPQ is actually a black top layer of steel that is applied to the club head and patinas over time. This is the only black finish Miura uses.

“Over the years, the Miura factory has tested many different black finishes and none of them have been able to deliver the same feel and sound that golfers have come to expect from Miura,” said Miura Chief Marketing Officer Jared Cohen. “What sets the Black QPQ finish apart is its uniqueness, achieved through a meticulous and labor-intensive process designed to preserve the club’s signature style, sound and performance, while maintaining the Miura ethos.”

Make no mistake, it takes a lot of work to get the club to the end of the QPQ. Because the finish is slightly heavier than the typical satin finish of a Miura cue, approximately three grams must be removed from the club head for a QPQ-finished head and a regular head to perform the same.

Other clubs that Miura has used the QPQ finish on include the TC-201 and MC-502 irons.

The Forged Series QPQ wedge still features the “Kanji” symbol embossed on the back, a Japanese character that can be translated as “striving” or “noble endeavour.”

The original version of the Forged series included two types of cuts, Y and C, based on the single cut that was available in the last version of the Miura wedge in 2019. Both cuts will now be available in three finishes: raw, satin and QPQ.

The C grind is for players who have a neutral or shallow approach angle and like to manipulate their face around the green, while the Y grind is best for players who tend to play a bit steeper or want to play a bunker club.

The Forged Black QPQ series is available in a range of angles from 46 to 60 degrees, with 46 to 52 being offered in the Y cut only, 58 and 60 being offered in the C cut only, and 54 and 56 being available in both cuts.
