December 23 – Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will be the first MLS team in 2025 – of course – to open the season against New York City FC at Chase Stadium on February 22.
MLS plays its season throughout the calendar year but is discussing switching to a European schedule.
In the past the current annual calendar has seen league play throughout the Gold Cup, although this year it will take a break from June 14 to 24. Many players from MLS are playing for CONCACAF countries in the Gold Cup. The break will cover most of the group games but not the knock-out rounds.

The main casualty of a packed 2025 schedule appears to be the League Cup – the month-long match between MLS and Mexico’s Liga MX sides. That competition has been reduced in number and will be played as midweek fixtures.
The League Cup organizing committee announced last week that it will be played from July 29 to August 31, 2025. The exact format and schedule will be announced in the new year. It will still qualify three berths from the Concacaf Champions Cup to the League Cup champion and second and third place finishers.
2025 is 30m season for MLS and will see his 30m Franchised clubs start playing. San Diego will open to 2024 MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy.
