Kai Gothardt’s first match at the World Darts Championships was abandoned after he broke his dart in half.

The world No. 136 player was three legs away from making his World Darts Championship debut when his barrel broke and he had to run for another one.

In one of the strangest moments in the history of the World Darts Championship, Gotthardt had to leave the stage to find another set of darts.

Fans were moved by the unique situation and laughed about this incredible event on social media.

Play was interrupted as the 29-year-old had to leave the arena to find another pair of darts as darts’ biggest event continues to deliver surprises.

WX one fan joked: “Is this the local pub or the World Cup?” while another said: “It’s ridiculous that he only took one set of darts on stage and no spare barrels or darts.”

Another said: “Broken dart and no spare equipment and people say pub darts is something else!” and one wrote: “Three legs to debut and it’s happening. Crazy!”

Gotthardt secured his place in the World Darts Championship by winning the PDC Europe Super League.

What happened at the World Darts Championships?

The World Darts Championships are well underway and day two has brought no surprises so far.

Wesley Plaisier survived a scare from Ryusei Azemoto to win 3-2 to set up a match against Peter Wright in the second round.

Meanwhile, Luke Woodhouse continued the momentum he had built since his semi-final appearance at the European Championships, beating Lourence Ilagan in straight sets.

James Wade and Jermaine Wattimen conclude the first afternoon session of the tournament with a second-round clash.
