Benfica defender Tomas Araujo has signed a new contract with the club, which reportedly includes a release clause worth €80 million, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Posting on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Romano sheds further light on Araujo’s situation, as he appears to be entrusting his future to Benfica for the time being.
Despite this, it is still thought that the talented 22-year-old will continue to attract interest, with Romano naming Chelsea as a suitor in the summer and Crystal Palace even having two bids for the player rejected.

Overall, this should be good news for Benfica as it puts them in control of Araujo’s future, although there are obviously other tempting options for the Portugal international.

No doubt some Chelsea fans will continue to monitor Araujo’s situation, as it looks like he could become a good investment for their team at some point in the near future.
The Blues may not be in desperate need of Araujo at the moment as they are performing better than expected in the Premier League, although the defense may be seen as a weakness.
Araujo could be said to be an upgrade over the likes of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashle, while Wesley Fofana has encountered injury problems during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Tosin Adarabioyo only joined CFC this summer and didn’t get much playing time, so it remains to be seen how long he sticks around, so see if Araujo’s €80 million comes into play at some point It looks very tempting, it will be a lot of fun.
