NEWARK, N.J. — Jack Hughes scored his 13th goal in the third period in New Jersey on Saturday, helping the Devils beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1.
Dawson Mercer and Timo Meier each had a goal and an assist to help the Devils improve to 7-3-1 in their last 11 games. Nico Hischier also scored and Jacob Markstrom made 17 saves while improving to 15-6-2 on the season.
New Jersey trailed 1-0 after two periods but finished strong in Drew Commesso’s first NHL start. Comeso finished with 20 saves.
Jason Dickinson scored for Chicago in the second period when his shot hit the crossbar, bounced off Devils defender Luke Hughes’ face and into the net.
Mercer tied the game early in the third quarter on a pass from Luke Hughes, giving New Jersey three straight points in 126 seconds to take the lead.

NEW YORK — Alex Turcotte and Warren Fogler scored in the first period and Los Angeles beat New York for its seventh win in eight games.
Quinton Byfield, Adrian Kempe and Phillip Danault also scored as the Kings handed the Rangers their ninth loss in 12 games. Darcy Kuemper made 31 saves.
Los Angeles captain Anze Kopitar had two assists as the Kings chased down Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin in the second period. Shesterkin allowed five goals on 21 shots.
Turcotte opened the scoring at 7:05 of the game, flicking the puck past Shesterkin and completing a 2-on-1 with Kempe. At 15 minutes and 06 seconds of the first quarter, Fogler rewritten the score to 2-0.
Byfield scored at 2:46 of the second quarter, Kempe scored at 4:40, and Danault scored at 5:04.
British stone. PAUL, Minn. — Kirill Kaprizov scored twice to lead Minnesota past Philadelphia, reaching 20 goals on the season.
Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi also scored, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 of 21 field goals for the Wild (at least For now) leads the league with 44 points.
Samuel Elson, who made 19 saves for the Flyers, denied Fleury’s buzzer-beater on Travis Sanheim’s goal with less than six minutes remaining.
Kaprizov opened the scoring with a high shot from a bad angle that broke Elson’s helmet and into the net. With 2 minutes and 10 seconds left in the game, he scored an empty goal.
In the second game, Boldy scored on a breakaway, and Rossi completed a wonderful two-on-one with Mats Zuccarello, who was returning from 12 games with a lower-body injury.
Oilers 6, Golden Knights 3
EDMONTON, Alta. — Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists and Edmonton beat Vegas for its fifth straight win.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor Brown each had a goal and an assist for the Oilers (18-10-2), who have won eight of nine games. Zach Hyman, Corey Perry and Jeff Skinner also scored.
The Golden Knights (19-8-3) have won four straight. Their record in the past 11 games fell to 8 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.
Viktor Olofsson, Ivan Barbashev and Brett Howden scored for Vegas, and Adin Hill made 28 saves.
Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner made 38 saves.
Senators 3, Penguins 2 (overtime)
OTTAWA, Ontario — Brady Tkachuk scored at 1:46 of overtime and Ottawa beat Pittsburgh for its first three-game winning streak of the season.
Thomas Chabot had a goal and an assist and Drake Batherson also scored for the Senators. Linus Ullmark was forced to sit out for the second straight night after backup Anton Forsberg was injured before warm-ups and made 25 saves.
Blake Lizotte and Chris Letang scored for the Penguins, who lost for the third time in five games. Tristan Jarry made 28 saves.
At 7 minutes and 34 seconds into the first quarter, Jarry was caught out of the goal and Chabot opened the scoring. It was Chabot’s first goal in 26 games.
Red Wings 4, Maple Leafs 2
DETROIT — Jeff Petry scored his first two goals of the season and Ville Husso made 23 saves to help Detroit beat Toronto for its first win in more than a year. First win.
Petry hasn’t scored since April 11 against Pittsburgh. He was acquired in an offseason trade with Montreal and scored three goals in 73 games last season.
Husso’s last win came on December 12 of last season. His record this season is 0-4-2.
Moritz Seidel and Lucas Raymond also scored for the Red Wings, who won for the second time in eight games. Raymond’s empty-net goal was his 10th goal in the last 12 games.
Auston Matthews and Matthew Nurse scored for Toronto. Joseph Wall made 22 saves.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Tom Wilson scored twice and Washington beat Buffalo.
Dylan Strome scored the game-winning goal and Jakob Chychrun’s empty-net goal sealed the victory for the Capitals, who have won four straight.
Logan Thompson made 19 saves in the win, which improved to 12-1-2.
Jason Zucker and Jiri Kulic scored for the Sabres, who have lost nine straight.
Uko-Pekka Lukonen made 27 saves, falling to 8-9-3.
Ducks 4, Blue Jackets 3 (overtime)
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alex Killorn scored his second goal of the game on a breakaway with 1:43 left in overtime and Anaheim rallied to beat Columbus Blue. The team ended their four-game stretch with a win.
Jackson LaCombe had a goal and an assist, and Mason McTavish scored for his 100th NHL point. Killorn had an assist and Robbie Fabbri had two goals. John Gibson made 39 saves to help Anaheim (11-14-4) snap a five-game skid.
Cole Sillinger, Kirill Marchenko and James van Riemsdyk scored for Columbus (12-13-5), which has lost three straight at home and its last seven games. Six losses in the tournament. Jeter Greaves made 23 saves.
Winnipeg, MA. — Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves, Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist and Winnipeg beat Montreal.
Adam Lowry, Gabriel Vilardi and Vlad Namestnikov also scored for NHL-leading Winnipeg. The Jets are 2-1-1 in four home games, improving to 22-9-1.
Josh Anderson and Lane Hutson scored for Montreal, and Sam Montembeault stopped 23 shots. The Canadiens dropped to 11-16-3.
In the middle of the third quarter, Anderson pulled Montreal to 3-2, and then Namestnikov scored an empty-net goal.
In the second quarter, Connor received a pass from Verardi with two people ahead, helping the Jets lead 3-1.
DALLAS (AP) — Matt Duchene scored on back-to-back sprints near his own goal line 2:31 into overtime and Dallas beat St. Louis.
Jason Robertson had a goal and an assist for the Stars, while Jake Oettinger stopped 15 shots to improve to 11 at American Airlines Center -1-0.
Jordan Kyrou gave the Blues a 1-0 lead in the first period and Jordan Binnington made 35 saves.
Duchenne leads Dallas with 13 goals and four game-winners.
DENVER — Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 38 shots in his Colorado debut and the Avalanche withstood a late Nashville surge to beat the Predators.
Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and an assist, Artturi Leknonen scored twice and Ross Colton scored once for the Avalanche .
Steven Stamkos and Luke Evangelista scored for Nashville, and Jus Saros made 29 saves.
Colorado acquired Blackwood from San Jose on Monday, and he made a good first impression with his home fans. He stopped the first 37 shots he faced before Stamkos scored with 6:57 left in the third period.
Evangelista tied the game at one goal with 4:52 left on a delayed penalty kick, and McKinnon and Raikkonen scored empty-net goals in the final 2 minutes to seal the victory.

At 5 minutes and 12 seconds into the game, Marchand opened the scoring, and less than 3 minutes later, Geekie made it 2-0. Zacha and McLaughlin doubled the lead in the second quarter, and Pastrnak made it 5-0 in the opening minute of the third quarter.
Sasson spoiled Swayman’s buzzer-beater midway through the third quarter.
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Clayton Keller scored a power-play goal with 43.8 seconds left and Utah State rallied to beat San Jose.
Michael Carcone tied the game midway through the third period and Utah won on a 4-on-3 shortly after Cody Ceci was called for a high post.
Utah won the faceoff as Keller knocked the puck away and beat Vitek Vanecek for his 10th goal of the season.
Dylan Guenther and Nick Schmaltz also scored for Utah. Karel Vermelka made 19 saves.
Fabian Zetterlund gave San Jose a 3-2 lead on a power play early in the third period, but the Sharks were unable to tie the game. Alexander Weinberg and Mikael Granlund also scored for San Jose. Vanecek made 36 saves.
SEATTLE — Brandon Hagel scored twice, Jake Guentzel had a goal and an assist and Tampa Bay beat Seattle.
Brayden Point had a goal and an assist and Declan Carlie scored his first NHL goal for the Lightning, who improved to 3 in four games. -1-0 record. Jonas Johansson made 21 saves.
Brandon Montour scored for Seattle and Philipp Grubauer made 26 saves.
Montour opened the scoring with a powerful shot at 4:24 of the first period.
Hagel surpassed Grubauer with a tip-in to tie the game at 8:16, and Point gave the Chargers the lead for good with 6:39 left in the first quarter.
Guentzel extended his goal streak to six games with a goal 4:03 into the third period. Point had his 15th assist in the last five games.
Hagel scored with an empty net with 3:52 left, and Carlisle scored in the final minute.
