PDC recently announced its 2025 lineup Dart Premier League campaign. Apart from the four best players in the world, this quartet Gerwyn’s priceNathan Aspinall, Chris Dobey AND Stephen Bunting received an invitation, meaning that for the first time since 2010 no Scottish players qualified for the tournament.
The announcement of the participants of the Premier League Darts 2025 was eagerly awaited, especially considering that apart from the top four in the world (Luke Humphries, Łukasz Małyr, Michael van Gerwen AND Rob Krzyża), there are many question marks around potential candidates. Many of the top players had a particularly mediocre year, so consideration was given to the possible selection of rookies, such as major winners such as Mike De Decker and Ritchie Edhouse. They won last year’s World Grand Prix and European Championships respectively.
Despite this, the PDC ultimately chose all the established names. In addition to the top four, Price, Aspinall and Dobey invited players who didn’t win a major last year but have done so in the past. Only Bunting won a Grand Slam last year, and his selection as world number five was expected.
Mike De Decker, like Peter Wright, was also not selected for Premier League Darts 2025
Those who missed out, in addition to the already mentioned De Decker and Edhouse, included players such as Jonny Clayton, Dave Chisnall, Damon Heta, Dimitri Van den Bergh and the Scottish duo Peter Wright AND Gary Anderson. With these two not selected, there are no Scots taking part in the Premier League Darts for the first time since 2010.
Sam Wright has been a fixture in the Premier League Darts since 2014, but after a particularly poor year his chances of taking part this year were already diminished. The quarter-final of the last World Darts Championship briefly reignited hopes for ‘Snakebite’, but the PDC is selecting different players this year, giving Wright time off.
