Norman, who will soon step down as CEO of LIV Golf, says the honored duo should appreciate how the Saudi-funded track has helped them.
Woods and McIlroy, stalwarts on the US PGA Tour, have been outspoken critics of LIV Golf and Norman, saying the Australian should step down from his role to mend the rift between the tours.
In response to the LIV tournament, which will host its fourth season this year, the PGA Tour has increased prize money with $20 million in tournaments and pumped more money into the Player Impact Program (PIP).
“I would like them to note the fact that, like Tiger with the PIP money, it’s only because of LIV, right?” Norman said next publication.
“So Tiger benefited from that. Rory certainly benefited from this.
“I would like to sit down and talk to them about this, without a doubt, because I am not a judgmental person and you only know the facts and the truth when you hear the other side of the story.
“But yes, would I like to sit with them? Sure, absolutely.
“And you know what? I would win the debate.”
Woods and McIlroy created the TMRW Golf League (TGL), a made-for-TV format in which players compete on golf simulators.
“No, I haven’t watched it at all because there are some players who have been very vocal against me,” Norman said.
“That’s why I won’t say anything positive or negative about it.
“All I can say is: the more golf is exposed in different ways, the better.
“Simulation golf is simulation golf… innovation is a wonderful thing, I’m not going to downplay that.
“I wish them all the best and success because that’s the market, right? They will attract people to play golf.”
Norman’s term as LIV CEO ends on August 31 of this year, and he is replaced by longtime sports and entertainment executive Scott O’Neil.
“When my official term at LIV comes to an end… I will remain involved with it in some way, shape or form,” he said.
“I’m going to stay on the board, so there will be that part of my life, but it won’t be as consuming as before.
“When I look back on my last three-and-a-half years, my last 20 years, oh my God, I’ve really changed the game of golf more than people realize.”
