January 31 – NWSL in the US officially named Colorado Denver, the 16th franchise of the league. Denver will start playing in the 2026 season.
The team owned by local and national investors, Rob Kohen, Chairman of the Insurance brokerage IMA Financial Group and CEO; Project Level, Melody Hobson and Former President of Washington Commanders Jason Wright, a supportive organization of the Ariel Investment; And the Firsttracks Sports Sports Ventures led LLC (FTSV), Zone-Eric Borzen and Kia Borgen Morritz, Neelima Joshi and Dhire Jhawari and Molly Cors.
Denver NWSL will serve as the governor of the Cohen Club as the controller and governor of Denver NWSL.
“NWSL has continued to grow as fast growth, we knew that our 16th team was criticized in a city with a enthusiastic sports culture and vibrant fan base, and Denver was the perfect match,” NWSL commissioner Jessica Barman said.
The Soccer team will be Denver’s first female professional sports franchise.
“The club’s plans for the purpose-built stadiums and sophisticated training facilities show the promise of providing world-class environment to our players and fans,” continued Burman.
The 15th franchise of the NWSL was awarded Boston in 2023 who paid a $ 53 million expansion fee, it was the same as the Bay FC, who finished the opening season in 2024. Boston will debut in 2026.
Denver is paying more than $ 1 million for their franchise.
