Ronny Huybrechts he recently withdrew from the PDC circuit. “Rebel” looked at his own PDC World Darts Championships he debuted in 2014 on the “Double Top” podcast. He was eagerly waiting for the drawing, but then his worst nightmare came true.
Both Huybrechts brothers, Kim and Ronny, were included in the draw for the PDC World Darts Championship 2014. “My manager at the time, Mac Elkin, called me to tell me who I was drawn against. I didn’t know anything yet and he told me: ‘Kim, you’ll never believe this, you have to play against Ronny.’ I had known Mac for a while and knew he liked to joke, so of course I immediately told him I didn’t believe it, but he persisted,” she recalled. Kim Huybrechts. “Then I call Ronny to break the news. Ronny didn’t believe it at first either, but it eventually turned out to be true.”
“You play your first World Darts Championship, then you hope for the top player, but then you get Kim,” Ronny laughed. “You can repeat a draw like this a thousand times, you will never get the same draw.”
Earlier, television stations widely commented on the match between the two brothers. “But we absolutely didn’t like it,” says Ronny. “I don’t like doing all these interviews beforehand anyway.”

What’s more, their World Championship match had an extra twist. “Kim could still qualify for the Premier League Darts. I certainly didn’t hold back during the match, but when I missed a shot and was up 2-0 in sets, there’s a moment in the back of my mind that you might crush his dream.”
“That makes sense too,” Kim adds. “Of course neither of us missed on purpose, we shouldn’t have and it would have been match-fixing, but you are still brothers and it makes sense that during the match you wonder what the consequences of failure might be for your player. Anyway, for me it was one of the most mentally difficult matches of my career.
Ultimately, Kim won 3-1.
