WITH Łukasz Małyr dazzling to new heights, new records were broken. The PDC World Darts Championships is well known for its use of set play, where players must win three games to win a set.
In the first round of the World Championships, a player needs to win three sets to win, which goes to the best of 13 sets in the final.
Previously only Michael van Gerwen AND Gary Anderson they managed to average over 130 points per set. Van Gerwen’s best result didn’t even come at a major event, but at the Masters of Darts in the Netherlands when he was just 17, averaging 133.91 against Raymond van Barneveld.
Anderson achieved both World Championship scores, reaching 132.62 and 131.93 during the 2016 and 2018 editions of the event against Jelle Klaasen and Jeff Smith, respectively.
One sec Gerwyn’s price broke the record for the 2021 World Championships. In the 2021 final, he reached 136.64 during the sixth set. Only to be taken over in 2024 by Luke Littler, who scored 140.91 in the fourth set in the last 64 against Ryan Meikle. Michael van Gerwen also previously held the record for average sets of nine darts. In 2013, he scored 151.33 in the third set of the last 32 sets. Luke Littler also broke that mark that evening.
Phil Taylor he is the only player on the list to do this twice in the same match, completing his victory over Shayne Burgess with a score of 128.83 twice in sets 3 and 5.
