Then further Measure: Padraig Harrington!
The three -time main master and instructional fanatic joined me after chocolate and vanilla ice cream (why choose only one? There are no rules about the measure!) To discuss all golf things.
Over the past few years I have become a big fan of Padraig Harrington. I mean, I have always appreciated his game, don’t get me wrong. But only when I started watching PGA Tour Champions press conferences, did I realize how much the Irishman loves to speak Golf. At the American Open Open in June, Harrington changed the 10-minute conversation with the media into a 30-minute media. When my colleague, Zephyr Melton, asked him about instructions, Harrington gave a long, thoughtful answer with examples. He wanted to make sure that Zephu’s question was properly answered. Then I knew that he would be a guest of dreams for the measure.
Harrington and I talked a lot, including how almost he became an accountant, his favorite Pro-AM moments and The biggest mistakes he makes ordinary golfersBut his advice for athletes’ parents is what I supported the most. He had a lot to say about it.
“Listen, you can’t force your children to do anything. You must take them and put them in an environment that they like. And when you like it, we like this sport … Take them to a place where you certainly don’t put any stress on them … It doesn’t matter what the level of skill are. As parents, we become very restless. We want to jump and help our children improve immediately because we think they don’t have time. They have all the time in the world. They don’t have to be better next weekend. They have years to improve. I think we want them better. They will find the way themselves. They understand it. I think we want to try them quickly, instead of letting them at our own pace and enjoy them. “
“If you want your children to be good in sport, put them somewhere where they are bored and where they have nothing else to do. Again, if you went to most professional golfers, we went to the club throughout the summer, 9:00 in the morning to 5:00 and just hung there, because there was nothing else to do … If you want it to be good, let them spend them Time with friends, play football on the pitch, and they get this love. They join the local club and so on. “
So you have it, people. Let your children get bored! Let them spend time with friends and discover their own love for the game, which we all love. And remember to check this episode of The Scoop, now on YouTube Golf.
