Although the Belgian had success, including Stefaan Henderyck reaching the semi-finals amid a glut of German talent in the PDC European Q School on day two, one player is missing Patrick Bullen.
Bulen, who had previously played in the PDC World Darts Championship, actually secured a place in the final but was suspended after a crazy chair-throwing incident in defeat.
The 55-year-old known as ‘The Pitbull’ also formed the first ever World Cup of Darts team with Rocco Maes and has competed not only in the World Masters but is currently on the Challenge Tour, so a player with a pedigree sorts it out.
Bulen advanced to the final stage with three points and a +12 leg difference, taking 67th place in the rankings. This placed him among the top 82 and 12 quarterfinalists qualifying for the final stage. However, when it was assumed that he had simply gone home, this turned out not to be the case.
He beat Felix Hein with an average of 92.78, but in the last 32 matches he faced Latvian Dmitry Zhukov and lost the last two matches. He missed many match darts, which meant Zhukov won the match.
According to information provided by Vincent Van Genechten from Newspaperwent even further, a source said in the newspaper’s translation.
“Patrick Bulen was suspended for flipping his middle finger after a loss, calling PDC (Professional Darts Corporation) a certain disease starting with the letter ‘C’ and kicking chairs in the hallway,” the source said. “I often play against him in Belgian tournaments; can be quite volatile.”
Witnesses also witnessed physical altercations, so despite qualifying, Bulen won’t play over the four days and will likely regret his actions in the cold light of day, especially since Zhukov currently has three points and is fighting for a Tour card.
Crazy story from Q-School. Patrick Bulen (55) was suspended after the second day of the first phase. The Belgian lost the match and went crazy, calling PDC a “cancer” and throwing chairs. “Pitbull” qualified with 3 points…https://t.co/Y3ckEiAH28 @nieuwsbladsport
