Peter Wright potentially his career was on the line tonight on The PDC World Darts Championships with the main questions that need to be asked of “Snakebite” should it suffer another early exit.
But amid the attack of the great Dutchman, Wesley PlaisierThe two-time world champion has given himself a huge confidence boost and will now face Jermaine Wattimena in round three. Falling rapidly down the rankings and with some of the comforts of being among the darts elite likely to desert him, Wright continues to fight to get back to his best. He sealed the victory 3-1, although in “Machine Gun” he will face a more difficult challenge from the Dutch.

The story of this match was in many ways reminiscent of Plaisier’s collapse under the weight of great odds. Wright scored a double 20 to seal the first set in the deciding match with two 180s and 50% in doubles for a 1-0 lead.
He then received his Christmas present wrapped and wrapped to perfection as he watched Plaisier waste eight set darts, and summed up his evening when Wright sprinted down the garden path to a 2-0 lead, hitting a double 10 in the decider to double his lead.
But Plaisier began to ask a question. He sealed the third set with three straight legs to force Wright to try and win it from there or be forced into a dogfight. The Dutchman achieved a high score of 136, which halved the deficit.
In the next set, Plaisier led 2-0. However, Wright held on with 127 in the bullpen and after giving up chances, he hit a double four to make it 2-2. After being sent off at the end, Wright made it 82 and a golden opportunity that was wasted in the final over proved crucial in ending the Dutch’s charge.
Wright celebrated emotionally after the win, showing how much it meant to him, as did Gerwyn Price, who also struggled to win and hopes to now show renewed confidence against Wattimena.
