Ping G430 irons achieved the best results in the category Pure Pleasure category of our best irons of 2024 vote. Now the Arizona-based company has announced the successor to its G430 model: the Ping G440 irons.
Ping says the G440 irons are designed to deliver game-enhancing technology in a sleek style for players. The Ping engineers’ goal was to increase distance, control and stopping power, making them suitable for a wide range of golfers.
More specifically, G440 irons have a thinner face and a low back center of gravity (CG), which allows for higher shots with longer carries and better accuracy. John K. Solheim, CEO of Ping, emphasized the balance of power and precision the design provides.
“The G440 iron offers golfers everything they need to improve their iron play,” Solheim said. “We know they want distance, but distance without control does not lead to lower results. The G440 is our most versatile iron and will suit the game of many golfers.
The key to the G440’s performance is the updated PurFlex cavity badge, which is designed to support a thinner face. The new four-piece molded badge flexes more efficiently, providing greater ball speed while improving feel and sound at impact.
Visually, Ping engineers tried to combine performance with aesthetics. The chrome finish and compact shape provide a premium look that maintains the forgiveness associated with dimpled irons. “It has a gamer-style look and a premium finish, but has all the performance benefits of a recessed spine,” Solheim said. “It will appeal to golfers who want the look of a blade but rely on game-enhancing technology.”
Given Ping’s emphasis on fit, it’s not surprising that the irons also feature redesigned spacing, with longer 4, 5 and 6 irons and a simplified wedge system that includes loft adjustment to improve consistency, according to the company. Additionally, the new AWT 3.0 steel shafts utilize ascending weight technology, ensuring optimal performance across the entire setup.
