Nick Jansen had a goal and an assist as the Senators won for the fourth time in five games. Nick Cousins and Michael Amadio both had two assists.
Ullmark was shutout for the second time this season and the tenth time in his career.
The 2023 Vezina Trophy winner has improved recently, winning five of his last six starts with a .954 save percentage and 1.48 goals-against average.
“It’s a tough place to come in and play,” Ullmark told reporters. “[Hurricanes] We’re also playing a very solid team game, so you can never let up. Head coach Travis Green echoed that sentiment.
“Happy for him. He’s playing his best hockey this year and I think it’s just a matter of time before he scores a goal – it’s great to see him score a couple of goals. This line has been a big part of us playing good hockey here lately.”
The Nick Cousins-Pinto-Michael Amadio trio combined for six points tonight and had a hand in all three goals.
Green also praised his team’s commitment to playing smart hockey even after taking the lead.
“I think our commitment to stopping the puck is great and that’s something we talk about a lot. It was a good win for our team and to get the result here … it’s going to be It helps us.”
The Senators defeated the Hurricanes for only the sixth time in their past 20 games and their first road win of the season in more than three years.
Senators: Much of Ottawa’s best performance this season has to do with the defensive end. The Senators haven’t allowed more than one goal in their past four wins.
Hurricanes: Carolina has trailed for the 11th straight game.
The Hurricanes threatened several times in the second period, with Ullmark deflecting Brent Burns’ shot from the facemask to maintain a 1-0 lead.
The Senators wiped out two of Carolina’s power plays in the first quarter, so now they’re 7-for-7 from the line over the past two games. That’s a nice boost for a team that ranks 24th in the NHL in penalty kills.
The Senators host Pittsburgh on Saturday and the Hurricanes host Columbus on Sunday.
