In a rivalry that transcends football, politics and nationalism, Real Madrid vs. Barcelona is always a major event.
Each club has over 100 wins in the competition, and more than 20 players have scored hat-tricks in El Clasico. Here we take a look at the players who have scored three goals or more against Madrid or Barcelona…
Santiago Bernabeu (Real Madrid, April 1916)
Although Santiago Bernabeu is best known today as the name of Real Madrid’s stadium and its legendary former president, he was also Real Madrid’s star player.
A prolific forward for Madrid in the 1910s and 1920s, the Bernabeu scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-finals in April 1916. The total score was not calculated at that time, so two replays were required to resolve the tie. The first game ended 6-6, with the Bernabeu scoring three more goals and teammate Luis Belaunde also scoring a hat-trick in the same game.
Paulino AlcĆ”ntara (Barcelona, āāApril 1916)
Barcelona’s Paulino AlcĆ”ntara joins Madrid’s Santiago BernabĆ©u and Luis Belaunde in an exciting Copa del Rey match between the two teams in April 1916 (Copa del Rey) Scored a hat trick in a 6-6 draw.
The legendary Filipino-born striker also scored in the first game of the series, which required two replays to decide the winner. In the fourth meeting between the two teams, Real Madrid won 4-2 after overtime. Alcantara scored 395 goals in 399 games for Barcelona, āāmost of which came in friendly matches.
Josep Samitier (Barcelona, āāApril 1926)
Josep Samitier is a Barcelona legend and despite later moving to Real Madrid, he was a prolific striker for the Catalan club and became their coach after retiring.
In April 1926, in the first leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals in Madrid, Samitier scored four goals to help Barcelona win 5-1. He scored twice in the second game, helping Barcelona win 3-0 and advance to the semi-finals with a total score of 8-1.
Jaime Lazcano (Real Madrid, March 1930 and February 1935)
Former Real Madrid midfielder Jaime Lazcano scored two El Clasico hat-tricks: one in a 5-1 win over Barcelona in March 1930, and the second on February 8, 1935. -2 in the win over Barcelona.
Madrid’s Ildefonso Sanudo scored four goals in the second game, while Barcelona’s MartĆ Ventola scored three goals in the second game in April 1935. At the beginning of the century, Barcelona’s Juan Ramon scored all three goals in a 3-1 win in April 1931. El Clasico became an important rivalry in 1943, with Madrid duo Pruden and Sabino Barinaga scoring three and four points respectively in one game. Atletico Madrid won 11-1. Barcelona players were allegedly under military pressure from the fascist dictatorship of General Franco before the game.
CĆ©sar RodrĆguez (Barcelona, āāMarch 1952)
CĆ©sar RodrĆguez was a legendary striker who played in the 1940s and 1950s and was a key player in AtlĆ©tico Barcelona before being eclipsed by Lionel Messi. top scorer in history.
Cesar scored a total of 232 goals for Barcelona, āāincluding three goals in a 4-2 La Liga home victory over Real Madrid in March 1952.
Eulogio MartĆnez (Barcelona, āāMay 1957)
In May 1957, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 6-1 in the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Copa General in Le Corts.
Spanish forward Eulogio Martinez scored four goals for Barca, who won 8-3 after a 2-2 draw in their first game in Madrid.
Evaristo (Barcelona, āāOctober 1958)
In 1962, Brazilian forward Evaristo left Barcelona to join Real Madrid after a dispute with the board of directors.
Despite winning two La Liga titles with Real Madrid, Evaristo was hampered by injuries in the capital and was unable to replicate his form at Barca, when he scored more than 100 goals and won 4-0 in the capital. Scored a hat trick in the game. Madrid, October 1958. It was the first El Clasico treble at the Camp Nou, having been inaugurated the previous year.
Ferenc PuskƔs (Real Madrid, January and December 1963)
Ferenc Puskas is the only player to score a hat-trick in two European Cup finals and one of the few players to have won two trebles in El Clasico.
The Hungarian superstar scored three goals in Real Madrid’s 5-1 win over Barcelona at Camp Nou in January 1963, and played in the team’s next meeting – a 4-0 victory over Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu in March 1964. Scored a hat trick in the game.
Amancio Amaro (Real Madrid, November 1964)
Amancio Amaro won nine La Liga titles with Real Madrid in the 1960s and 1970s, and also helped Real Madrid win the 1966 European Champions League.
A right outside player, Amancio scored over 150 goals for Real Madrid during his long spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, including three in a 4-1 home win over Barcelona in November 1964.
Gary Lineker (Barcelona, āāJanuary 1987)
Gary Lineker spent three seasons at Barcelona in the late 1980s, with the former England striker winning over the club’s fans when he scored a hat-trick against Real Madrid in January 1987. favorite.
Lineker scored three typically poacher goals as Barca beat Madrid 3-2 at Camp Nou. This is the first hat-trick in El Clasico in more than 20 years.
Romario (Barcelona, āāJanuary 1994)
Romario didn’t last long at Barcelona, āābut the Brazilian gave fans some unforgettable nights in his season and a half at Camp Nou.
One of those goals came in a 5-0 La Liga win over Real Madrid, with the forward scoring a stunning hat-trick for Johan Cruyff’s side at Camp Nou. Ronald Koeman and Ivan Iglesias scored the other goals.
Ivan Zamorano (Real Madrid, January 1995)
Ivan Zamorano scored eight goals in El Clasico, three of which came in one game.
A year after losing 5-0 to Barcelona at the Camp Nou, Real Madrid won by the same scoreline at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the Chilean having three shots on goal. Luis Enrique and Jose Amaviska scored the other two goals.
Lionel Messi (Barcelona, āāMarch 2007 and March 2014)
Lionel Messi’s first career hat-trick came in El Clasico, with the Argentine superstar scoring for Barcelona in a 3-3 draw with Real Madrid at Camp Nou in March 2007 Scored all three goals.
Seven years later, Messi scored another hat-trick, including two penalties, as Barcelona beat Madrid 4-3 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Luis Suarez (Barcelona, āāOctober 2018)
Real Madrid were in dire straits in October 2018 following the recent departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane, and Barcelona took full advantage with a frenetic performance at Camp Nou.
Luis Suarez struck three times for Ernesto Valverde’s side as Barca won 5-1 on the night. Real Madrid sacked head coach Julen Lopetegui after a disastrous defeat at Barcelona.
Karim Benzema (Real Madrid, April 2023)
Karim Benzema scored 16 El Clasico goals in 14 seasons as a Real Madrid player.
In the Copa del Rey semi-finals in April 2023, the French striker scored a hat-trick in his last game against Barcelona, āāhelping Real Madrid beat Camp Nou 4-0 away. Vinicius Junior scored the other goal.
Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid, January 2024)
In January 2024, Real Madrid met Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia, and Real Madrid won the trophy in a one-sided manner.
Vinicius Junior scored a hat-trick in Riyadh, Rodrygo also scored as Real Madrid won 4-1 and Robert Lewandowski scored for Barcelona. This is the 28th hat trick in the El Clasico, and Vinicius became the 24th player to score three goals in this game.
