Pochettino’s USMNT set to face Costa Rica in friendly

The U.S. men’s national team will play Costa Rica in Florida on Jan. 22 as part of a two-match series, U.S. Soccer announced on Monday.

The organization earlier announced that the men’s football team, led by Mauricio Pochettino, will kick off the 2025 schedule with a friendly match against Venezuela on January 18. The South American country reached the quarter-finals of the Copa America earlier this year.

Pochettino’s tenure as head coach of Team USA has been pretty good so far. After a friendly win over Panama and a loss to Mexico, the Argentine tactician made his debut in the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-finals with a 5-2 aggregate win over Jamaica.

With just a few months on the job, the former Premier League boss will continue to focus on the progress of his players, especially since there are important matches in 2025 such as the CONCACAF Nations League final and CONCACAF before the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Caribbean World Cup.

“January training camp has long been an important part of the development of the national team. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with our MLS players before capping it off with a fantastic challenge against Costa Rica,” U.S. National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino said in a press release. “Orlando has been a great host to U.S. Soccer and we are excited to have another opportunity to play in front of our fans.”
