Former cricketer R. Ashwin praised Rishabh Pant for his magnificent performance and said that if the wicketkeeper-batsman realizes his full potential, he can score a century in every game.
“We have to teach him correctly what he has to do if he has to bat solidly or bat with intention. He doesn’t score many runs but he doesn’t perform like someone who doesn’t have runs. He has a lot of free time. Rishabh Pant is yet to reach his full potential,” Ashwin said on his Youtube channel.
“He has all the shots — the reverse sweep, the long sweep, everything — but the problem is all of those shots are high-risk shots. With his defense, if he faces 200 balls, he’s definitely going to make them every game. Can score.
“The focus is on finding the middle game. If he combines all this, he will score 100 points a game. He has to find the middle game,” he added.
Pant recently scored the second-fastest fifty (29 deliveries) in Tests for India against Australia in the fifth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Sydney after he Scored 40 points in the fierce battle. Same game.
“Growing up, I always heard you’ve fought your way to the end. In Sydney, he hit two different knocks in one game. He was hit everywhere and scored 40 runs, which will be Rishabh Pant spoke the least in the innings which is very unfair.
“He hit a fifty in the second innings and won a lot of praise. Everyone forgot about the first innings and praised his second knock,” Ashwin said,
However, he was unable to emulate his exploits in the 2020-21 BGT when he helped India register a famous victory in the series decider in Brisbane, which had hitherto been known as Australia’s bastion.
While Pant is judged for his outstanding bowling ability, Ashwin added that he has one of the best defences in world cricket, placing him alongside Joe Root and Steve Smith.
“We have to realize that Ritha Pant rarely goes out to defend. He has one of the best defenses in world cricket. Defending has become a challenging aspect and he has the best defense with his soft touch.
“I bowled a lot to him in the nets, he didn’t get out, he didn’t have an edge, he didn’t have LBW, he had the best defense. I’ve tried to tell him that. One thing about Rishabh is that he bowls a lot The ball, he has to fight hard in Test cricket,” Ashwin said.
Ashwin, 38, who retired from international cricket in the middle of BGT, said he would continue to play.
“It’s about me as an Indian cricketer and that’s over. But Ashwin’s career as a cricketer is not over yet. I feel it’s still some distance away. I feel I can talk about it over a period of time Talking about my personal decision, I actually wanted to record my entire story as an Indian cricketer.”
