Peter Wright he skipped the usual trademark walking dance and harkened back to his lockdown days by elbowing the crowd at the stadium PDC World Darts Championships. But there is a reason.
Wright has been suffering from a chest infection in the final days ahead of his fight with Jermaine Wattimena, who will no doubt be even more confident in his chances given the deteriorating “Snakebite” weather.
Wattimana has been in the form of his life recently and reached the final of the European Championships. he passed Stefan Bellmont and James Wade in the first two rounds, and Wattimen developed into an important player.

For Wright, this is certainly not the news he needed. He had been struggling with form problems for some time, but he managed to overtake Wesley Plaisier in the first match. He had an emotional breakdown after that.
But despite this it is emphatically said that form is temporary, class is permanent. Although he also predicted that Barney would defeat Luke Humphries and instead it would be Nick Kenny who would soon face “Cool Hand Luke”.
“I hope that the classes will be permanent and the form will be temporary. I hope his (Wattimen’s) form will be temporary and he will come back after Christmas and play trash. It’s nice to see Jermaine playing fantastic darts, I’m happy for him. I have to put in more effort to compete with him,” he said.
“Luke Humphries and Luke Littler motivate me because I know I can still compete with them. I actually know I can be better than them. Gary (Anderson) also motivates me. These little old guys can still do it. I believe Barney will beat Luke (Humphries) and then me and Barney will have the best match you have ever seen on this stage. Fingers crossed, Barney.”
However, despite the illness, Wright started to win the first set well, although he ended it with a coughing fit, which showed that the weather was not the best after Christmas. How this will affect him in the future, time will tell.
