He only received approx PDC World Darts Championships I’ll call after Dom Taylor’s suspension, but Robert Owen he makes the most of his time Pally’s ally chances and will advance to the third round after losing to the former semi-finalist Gabriel Clemens 3-1.
After his semi-final appearance at Ally Pally two years ago, Gabriel Clemens entered this tournament with a lot of weight on his shoulders. As for Robert Owen, a win would have all but secured him a PDC Tour Card for next year, so the Welshman didn’t feel free from the pressure either. In a tight and tense opening set, it was Owen who secured it by breaking the shot in the fifth round on an 11 counter and quickly took the lead.

Owen also held a shot in the first part of the second set before punishing Gilding with several missed darts double for the fourth straight game, doubling his lead in the second set with darts in the third set. The Welshman scored a double advantage, ensuring he held the shot comfortably, and Owen actually got the second set on the board.
Immediately after breaking a shot early in the third set, Owen looked to be charging ruthlessly towards the third round. To his credit, however, Clemens immediately pulled back to stop the rot, then made two straight games to retain the set and stay in the fight, although still trailing 2-1.
After Owen missed the bullpen to start the fourth set in style, Clemens pinned an uplifting 143 to break the Welshman’s shot. However, Owen scored in the next game, finishing the match on 81. With 13 darters to carry in the next game, Owen moved one leg away from victory. After Clemens missed two darts to keep the game alive, Owen calmly took the lead and won 3-1.
