Training aids can be extremely useful tools for improving your swing. Heck, even professionals use them. Go to any driving range at a PGA Tour event and you’ll see all sorts of gadgets in the hands of players.
The key for you, dear reader, is finding Normal training aid. There are many types of equipment that claim to fix your swing. But if you don’t use something that solves the right problems, your work will be wasted.
That’s why you often see professionals using different training aids at different stages of their career. One year they may be perfecting their swing with one tool, and the next year it will be completely different. Golf swings will change over time, so it’s important to know how best to keep your swing stable.
Sometimes when you’re in the middle of fixing something on your swing, that’s all you can think about. Every time you pass by a mirror, you will notice that you are practicing your golf swing. This is also the case with professionals Rory McIlroy, he found a clever way to always have a club with him to work on his swing.
Rory’s Little Club
As you can see in the clip above, McIlroy swings a small stick on the shooting range during a DP World Tour event. No, he’s not putting a radical new stick in his bag, but rather a handy training aid that he can use almost anywhere.
“It’s a little club that I can carry with me everywhere,” McIlroy says. “Take it to the hotel room with me and wave it around the house whenever I want to feel it.”
However, portability isn’t the only use for this little club. The handle is molded (like Scottie Scheffler’s uses every day), which helps him consolidate good habits when holding the bat.
“Sometimes it helps because sometimes my left hand grip gets a little bit tighter,” he says.
Finally, with a lot of weight in the head, McIlroy can better feel where the clubhead is when he swings it – whether on the range or at home – which is a huge advantage when you’re trying to get a new feel for your game at the top of your backswing.
“I’ve been using it basically since October when I was trying to make a little change to my backswing,” he says. “It kind of follows me everywhere.”
