Pepperdine grad Sahith Theegala pledges money for Los Angeles-area wildfire relief efforts

The lower Sahith Theegali’s Sony Open winnings, the more money he will donate to fight wildfires in the greater Los Angeles area.

Theegala posted a message on his Instagram account saying he would donate $100 for the bird and $250 for the eagle to multiple charities, including the Red Cross, Direct Relief and the Canine Rescue Club.

As the 27-year-old explained, the Red Cross is providing “shelter, food, emotional support and health care” to people in affected areas. More than 180,000 people were forced to evacuate and more than 17,000 acres were burned.

Direct Relief is partnering with Los Angeles-area YMCAs to distribute free N95 masks to protect people from inhaling smoke. The Canine Rescue Club provides temporary foster care for animals displaced by the wildfires.

Theegala was born in Orange, California, south of Los Angeles. He attended Pepperdine University, where he played on the golf team.
