Scheffler is recovering from surgery on his right hand following an accident on Christmas Day. He was initially expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks.
The American said he expected to make a decision in “the next few days or week whether I will play next week.” The deadline to register to play at Pebble Beach is Friday evening (Saturday AEDT).
“I just want to make sure I’m back to normal and that my rehab is going the right way,” Scheffler said.
“I’m definitely looking forward to coming back, I’m excited to be back, but I’m also not going to rush back to rush back.”
Scheffler received a stab wound from broken glass while preparing Christmas dinner. On Monday, he said he was making homemade ravioli.
The 28-year-old underwent surgery to remove glass shards from his hands.
Scheffler had hoped to return for last week’s appearance at The American Express in La Qunita, California, but said the deal wasn’t ready yet, so he withdrew to “give my injury more time to heal.”
He noted that not being able to use his right hand affects other things beyond golf.
“Sometimes you don’t realize how uncoordinated you are until you have to brush your teeth with your left hand,” the American joked.
Last season, Scheffler won seven PGA Tour events and won an Olympic gold medal in the banner campaign.
He won the Masters and was named PGA Tour Player of the Year for the third consecutive year.
