Shane McGuirk brushes aside Francois Schweyen, moves into WDF World Championship Final

Shane McGuirk continued his great participation in the 2024 World Championships WDF World Championships On Lake by qualifying for the men’s final. This came at a cost François Schweyenwhich saw a strong tournament run aground in the semi-finals.

McGuirk has already proven to be the most stable player among men this week. McGuirk defeated Mark Barilli (2-0), Edwin Torbjörnsson (3-0), Brandon Weening (3-0) and Peter Machine (4-0). Thus, McGuirk still hasn’t lost a set after four matches.

The Irish darter retained this status. In the first set of the semi-final, McGuirk took advantage of his chances much more effectively. Schweyen missed doubles in the first and third games and then went on to lead his Irish opponent 3-1 in the set.

A score of 49 then gave McGuirk the lead in the second set before Schweyen tied the score with a 17-darter shot. The next two legs also fit darts, so a fifth leg was necessary. McGuirk started this stage and secured the set with a score of 72.

McGuirk then won both the third and fourth sets 3-0. The highlight was logging out from 102 points and winning the fourth set. He then took the lead in set five with a 13-darter before Schweyen tied it at 1-1. McGuirk then finished with a 15-darter and a 19-darter.
