Sources — Chip Lindsey accepts Michigan O-coordinator job

Chip Lindsey has agreed to a deal to become the new offensive coordinator Michigansources told ESPN on Tuesday evening.

The Wolverines targeted Lindsey after firing Kirk Campbell last week, and sources told ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Max Olson on Tuesday that an agreement with the longtime coach is expected.

Lindsey, who was 15-19 years old Faircoach in 2019–2021, he spent the last two seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator North Carolina. He also has experience as a coordinator, having worked at UCF, Auburn, Arizona State and Southern Miss.

The 50-year-old, who began his career as a high school coach in his native Alabama, replaces Campbell, who was fired last week after his first season in the Wolverines’ offense.

North Carolina had the nation’s No. 7 passing offense in 2023 when Lindsey coached the quarterback Drake Mayewho went to New England Patriots the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Lindsey also trained Jarrett Stidhamselected in the fourth round of the NFL draft out of Auburn.

Lindsey is expected to inherit the quarterback Bryce UnderwoodESPN’s No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class, who signed with Michigan last week after declining his commitment from LSU. After losing in the first round of the NFL draft JJ McCarthy from its 2023 national championship team, Michigan started three different quarterbacks this fall and dropped to 129th in the country in passing and 112th in scoring.

Michigan State coach Sherrone Moore was the team’s offensive coordinator in 2023. He then promoted Campbell, the team’s quarterback coach, to replace him. Moore hasn’t worked with Lindsey before.

The Wolverines are prepared to lose their top senior running backs Kalel Mullings AND Donovan Edwardsand their leading wide receiver, Tyler Morrisentered the transfer portal. Tight end Colston Lovelandwho led Michigan with 56 receptions for 582 yards, is considered a top NFL prospect if he decides to skip his final college season.
