Southampton are on course for the ultimate unwanted Premier League record.
Because they are currently projected to finish the season with the fewest points in the league.
The Saints have struggled to adapt to life in the top flight and have managed to pick up just six points from their 19 games so far.
By comparison, Southampton Fans will be reluctant to look to Bhagya Derby County Back in 2007/08.
The Rams are infamously remembered as the worst team in Premier League history after picking up just 11 points in the campaign.
That team was captained by Robbie Savage, Roy Carroll and top scorer Kenny Miller.
But despite their lower numbers, at this stage of the season they still had more points than Southampton managed.
At the halfway point of the 2007/08 campaign, Billy Davies’ side had seven points on the board – one more than Ivan Juric’s side had so far.
This means that Southampton have serious work to do to avoid the tag of being the worst team in the Premier League.
Last season Saints were promoted to the Premier League via the play-offs, beating Leeds United at Wembley Stadium.
But adapting to life at the Lane has been difficult for Russell Martin, who won just one game in the top-flight before being sacked as Saints manager earlier this month.
Southampton have lost 15 of their 19 games so far, drawing just three times in the process.
A big part of their struggles have been their struggles in front of goal, with Southampton conceding just 12 goals in 19 games so far.
That number is the lowest in the Premier League.
Southampton have also conceded 39 times in the league this season – a figure bettered only by Leicester and Wolves, who have conceded 42 times.
Southampton next face Brentford at home on Saturday 4 January.
