A supporter was later arrested from the Herts end of Tynecastle Hibernian Substitute Jordan Obita was allegedly racially abused during Boxing Day’s Edinburgh derby.
The incident happened while a VAR check was underway for Hibs’ opening goal in the 10th minute, and manager David Gray praised the defender for not letting it affect him as he got into play after play to help his side see out 2. -1 win.
“There’s no place for that and it’s dealt with,” Gray told Sky Sports afterwards.
“The most important thing is that Jordan was on the field and was great when he was on the field. So it’s about making sure it doesn’t affect people as much as we can.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s unacceptable.”
A statement from Hearts read: “The club condemns racism and any derogatory behaviour.
“It will not comment further on an active police matter.”
Hibs later released a statement thanking Hearts for their “quick” response.
“Hibernian FC would like to thank Hearts for taking swift action against a Tynecastle supporter during today’s Edinburgh derby,” it read.
“A supporter was ejected from the stadium and arrested during the first half following an alleged incident of racism.
“Hibernian FC condemns any form of racism or derogatory behaviour. It has no place in sports or society.
“As this is a police matter, the club will not comment further.”
